Weekend

(unfinished) greenhouse

For the first time in months I was able to keep up with my husband while doing farm work yesterday. The energy everyone told me would come has finally arrived and I’m SO happy… after feeling like a walking hangover for the last few months, this break is much appreciated.

We took advantage of a weekend without plans or running around and decided to finish the greenhouse. It’s not huge (it’s 10 feet x 30 feet) but it’s big enough for us to keep ourselves in tomatoes, cucumbers and basil for the summer and greens in the winter.

I broke in my new Vitamix and turns out I’m completely obsessed with it. I actually blended five separate concoctions in the span of a day and a half. It’s by far the best kitchen appliance I have ever bought and I’m nerdily excited about all the new recipes I can make in this thing. Hummus, peanut butter, almond milk, ah! This is a decadent recipe for a banana, almond, flax seed smoothie I whipped up last night that you should try. (I made the almond butter earlier in the day then threw everything together for an afternoon ‘snack’.) According to my husband it doesn’t taste healthy at all, which basically means it’s awesome.

And today the dogs had been whining from boredom all morning so we took them to the beach for a swim and I got a little sun, finally! It’s feeling like summer, cold days and all, and I’m remembering why I like it here so much.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend, wherever you are.
